Headline

The importance of reading cannot be overemphasized. It is through reading that people gain knowledge on various issues. But now adays it is quite obvious that sensation, scandal, sex and showbiz are the selling points of these dailies. Do you think our 20+ morning and afternoon dailies can still provide the knowldege we are looking for? Do you still read any newspaper?

Seeing today's headlines, I don;t think it gives me the knowledge I am looking for... it just makes me sad or angry or something.
I will still read the paper - Manila Bulletin, Inquirer and Star.
Other than those three, I think I will just look at the headlines...

I don't read newspaper, I hardly watch the news. Basahin ko na lang nga blog mo... Ahhahah!
hello Iskoo,

Reading is very important but it is also important to choose what you'll read. As for those tabloads on your pic I think they are more on the sensational news and entertainment value that can also be called "crap".

I no longer read much news nor watch it, as I think no matter how they try to be objective they are influenced by what the producers or editors dictate. Having worked in a Fil-Am newspaper myself I guess I'm quite saturated with all these news.

Hehe!

i do read sometimes, but i more prefer watching news..

dati hinde ako gaanong mahilig sa news, kaya lang madalas im caught off guard with one of our client based in US, kasi he liked to know philippine news, headlines, politics, etc., so minsan kapag ask nya ako about a particular news or issue... i was kinda struck.. parang tipong.. "huh?!?! may ganoon ba?!?!" so parang nakakahiya naman ata yun, cya na taga US at isang true american blood mas may concern sa mga issues sa pinas kesa sa akin na dito pa nakatira :)

so yun, once in a while read ng news para updated naman kahit papaano :)

kahit nakakasawa minsan ang news, i think we still need to know and do something about other issues in our own little way :)

and i agree with them, its more interesting to read your blog though :)

if i have time yah i do... first i browse then choose read a portion that interest me... onga eh it's quite disappointing dun sa mga dyaryong may mga 'bastos' na topic...

God bless!

yeah buying tabloid nowadays is a waste of money! but buying a newspaper can also lead you to frustration and sadness. WHY? i guess 90% of daily newspaper contains badnews, 9% lies and only 1% good news. :)
Anonymous Anonymous, at 6:22 PM
I don't think many of the papres out there no longer pays attention to issues that are relevant for us any more. Tabloids give too much emphasis in showbiz and the rest has too much politics in it. think it's really gross.

Even most of the so called "quality" newspapers here are quite low level. Sorry to say they are not to the level of some "quality" international newspapers.

But I am even more dissapointed in the TV news. First you got all those annoying commercials and then you got this strange mix about the love life of some sex bomb girl next to a bomb explosion in Iraq...
Blogger Sidney, at 7:34 PM
awwww...

i only read the sunstar-cebu during saturdays/sundays due to certain people i look up to who writes at the daily.

i prefer newsweek or time magazine. but my dad stopped the subscription.

so i'm left with nothing on weekdays.

======

thanks for the comment on my blog. joyce and momoy/moloy are back together na. :)

Kasi may mga iba ibang section like lifestyle or minsan ung mga Young Star.

pero in general average of twice a month lng ako magbasa ng dyaryo :D

I DO! as what our parents would advised us, just read read and read.

like books, there are publications meant to be digested, and those that can be for passive reading (in in one ear, out to other). besides its good if you're updated with current events (be it showbiz or political matters)

bilang na araw ng mga newspapers, magazines, tabloids. with the advent of internet, soon a lot of people will just read the news through their phones, computers, any gadgets or gizmos. the trees are saved!
Blogger Tani, at 4:26 AM
yes sometimes I do read tabs and other newspaper, I just choose an interesting article to fill my so-called curiosity...ek ek.

I agree most of the contents are crappy, that's why I better go into blogging and read your interesting post...sipsip bah?:D
Anonymous Anonymous, at 6:29 AM
Anonymous Anonymous, at 7:46 AM
hi, my source of "news" for some time now is the web. faster and updates almost every hour. I do miss reading the papers though.
i really love to read so even news papers!
Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:18 AM
part of my dailies is to read the philippine star or check out inq7.net ;)
Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:23 AM
been ages i haven't entered phil news sites.. for the same reason.
Tiktik...PANALO!hahaha
The only thing I go to when I hold a newspaper is the crossword puzzle. I am newsfasting. :)

pero nakikibalita pa rin ako through inq7, abs-cbn or even youtube... :)
Anonymous Anonymous, at 3:35 PM

ako ay isang tungaw sa current events. i'm not proud of it... i should start reading the newspaper and watching the news..
hi iskoo! yup, I still read the newspapers. pero I don't read political news, kakagigil kasi!

ex-link pwede? ;)
i have the sunday newspaper delivered. pag suwerte sa sched, i finish reading during sunday brunch. pag malas, monday or tuesday ko na maalala basahin or totally forget about it.

i don't read editorials and views. i only want facts. it's info ONLY that i hopefully get from dailies, then i take it from there. i gain info and form my own opinion and views.

on-line works for me, bbc,star.
Anonymous Anonymous, at 9:00 PM
we subscribe to 3 newspapers everyday and it's part of our breakfast routine.

on your pic (which are tabloids) are good during long trips for climbing. (crossword puzzle and for socials) dual purpose diba!
Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:15 PM
offtopic: enge pics mo for my scrapp, or i'll use the one dun the luma mo? oks lang ba. email mo nlang ako!

"The importance of reading cannot be overemphasized."

---> depending on what you're reading. if it's a 'trash' one should not waste time.

yea, i still read the newspaper, online edition mostly. basically to update myself on current events. tabloid has its own audience. people buy them for certain reasons, whether for info or whatever, i still think they share a big chunk of the reading Filipinos.
Anonymous Anonymous, at 12:34 AM
Hmmm... I don't read newspapers often. When I'm waiting in the bank or for a meeting and there's a newspaper available, then I catch up. I usually just catch up with the news on TV or in the net.
- at pag may oras - lipas na ang balita - tsk - favorite ko pa naman ang MB daily habit tuwing Sundays - lalo na dati ng ako'y nagka-LBM (looking for better management)- uy, in fairness, i later realized after that they were among the best - true!
I hardly read newspaper nor watch news! The net gives me headlines, and I only read those that interest me ... besides there are so many blogs to read na, kulang ng oras he he he...

mhmm they only give INFORMATION and FACTS.

Information is cheap anyway, and FACTS change.

What everybody needs is the KNOWLEDGE and the WISDOM. When you learn something that is valuable.. and that is knowledge and then you APPLY it.. then you are on the road to WISDOM.

Information is cheap.. knowledge is valuable but WISDOM is PRICELESS.

Facts change... and TRUTH does not.

I dont read newspapers anymore.. they only give you the facts.. but not the truth. They give you information and it will attract you to things you do not want. :)
Blogger tina, at 5:15 PM
i don't read the newspaper nor watch news on tv, since college ata hehehe! wala lang, i hate the subjectivity in our local papers.

sometimes i browse the cnn page, seldom pala hahaha!

onga, mas kapaki-pakinabang pa mag-bloghop :D
Blogger eye, at 6:07 PM
Anonymous Anonymous, at 1:40 AM
there's been a great worry from newspapers because of internet but i still read one, every friday and sunday when newspapers are bulked... there are a lot of great ideas from our respected columnists you could seldom find here in the internet so maybe if these columnists would do their write-ups in the internet, then maybe that's the time i'd stop buying newspapers, not that i often agree with their ideas...

many will really think a tabloid's a piece of junk but i have to disagree... madaming details ang tabloids like sa madaming crimes na di napapublish sa dailies because di kaaya-aya sa tao... pero most crimes are solved dahil sa ebidensya ng mga reporters na tumututok dito... siguro meron talagang tabloids na sex lang yung binebenta but there really are na matitino...
Anonymous Anonymous, at 7:28 PM
I dont read newspaper these days, unless nag papa ads ako, or because of tv programs.
I think there is a deterioration in Philippine publication these days. Even broadsheets are yucky. Too much emphasis on showbiz... atrocious.
Anonymous Anonymous, at 7:15 PM
Ninety-percent of what you'll get from newspapers are, well, news. And news can range from the informative to just plain petty. If you want to read to add to the bank of useful knowledge that you have, read books instead. Then again, "useful" is relative.

The act of reading, regardless of what material you read, is inherently enriching. The difference is set by what you choose to read. So choose well.

Your blog is hot. I'll link you ah.
